Hello everyone. I recently took part in an festival committed to drawing from Nature. Here is the link: http://skizzenfestival-weimar.blogspot.de/2015/05/skizzenfestival-2015-in-halle.html. I will post my work shortly on this page. Hope everyone is well. M.
I do not know about you, but I suffer from some severe, sever jealousy when I see other artist's work. The kind of work that  currently makes me most jealous is the kind of work that is sketchy and funny and clever and powerful and just full of so much charm. Work in sketchbooks of street corners from different parts of the world and of bottles and packaging and stuff. Powerful drawings in this genre make me GREEN with jealousy. It is the charm really. Charm is something you read often about, especially when you are reading older books. I just finished reading "Die Leiden des Junges Werthers," (The Sorrows of Young Werther) and Werther speaks of charm when talking  about Charlotte the object of his passionate love, in addition to other things in his life. Tolstoy also uses this word, or something approximating it in "War and Peace," something else I just read. I can only come to the conclusion that this charming, this momentary suspension of being in life, or a suspension of your hitherto emotional state, being replaced by a sense of otherworldliness and happiness.Perhaps it is rather an intensification of Life in a work.  Illustrator's notebooks seem to do this. It makes me wickedly jealous, as I generally feel that this is a prime goal of art. For an example of work that I mean, please look at this:
